ARTIST TALK AND CYANOTYPE ANIMATION WITH EDD CARR

18-19.11.2023 Galleria Ratamo.

Saturday 12-18.
Sunday 10-14.

Edd Carr is an experimental artist from North Yorkshire, UK, working primarily with moving image and alternative processes to explore our anxieties around the ecological crisis and the mass extinction of life. He manipulates his own experiences to understand wider societal trauma surrounding the climate crisis - particularly within his own generation.

Artist talk will cover Edd Carrs artistic practises and discussion about eco-friendly alternatives to analog and digital photography.

Cyanotype is a UV printing process that was first introduced in 1842 by John Herchel. Initially intended for reproducing notes and diagrams, cyanotype has evolved into an artform of itself. In 2021, Edd Carr created the first cyanotype animation music video using over 5000 prints. In this workshop Edd Carr guides beginner and advanced students through the process of creating a 3-5 second gif with cyanotypes. Through demonstration and group discussion, students will learn how to prepare and adapt footage into digital negatives, best practices when printing for animation and how to digitize their footage.
